> Dr. Nalini Nadkarni is a Professor of Biology at the University of Utah. She carries out research on ecological interactions in rainforest canopies with support from the National Science Foundation and the National Geographic Society. Dr. Nadkarni has been featured on National Geographic, NPR and TED talks. She has written over 140 scientific papers and three scholarly books. Nadkarni also engages people outside academia through collaborations with faith-based groups, artists, corporations and people who are incarcerated. Drawing upon religious scriptures, she has given sermons on “Trees and Spirituality” in over 50 places of worship, created pamphlets with information about trees that grow in churchyards, and had conversations with religious leaders such as the Archbishop of Canterbury. Her work is featured in journals and public media such as Science Friday and RadioLab. Her awards include a Guggenheim Fellowship, the AAAS Award for Public Engagement, The William Wilson Award for Social Justice, and the Archie Carr Medal for Conservation.
