Subject: [Green] Injection Wells

Green Sanctuary Committee:

Maggie Meyer's most excellent LTE on injection wells was published in today's edition of the Marietta Times (attached). Thank you, Maggie!

I suggest we keep up a drum beat of information about this little-known and highly dangerous practice of injecting brine waste in Washington County. The companies doing this practice are not transparent, have been given a virtual blank check by ODNR, and are exposing our county residents to environmental and health hazards.

My specific suggestion is that someone else on Green Sanctuary (I am at risk of over-exposure since I just had an LTE in the MTimes) point out in an LTE that the brine waste business contributes almost nothing to the economic development and job growth in our region. Their profits go outside the region (Deep Rock is owned by a Pennsylvania company). The little that they provide in the way of jobs in the form of truckers who transport brine waste to injection wells will be eliminated when they start transporting by barge. As you may recall the USACE approved Deep Rock's request for a permit for a barge off-load facility just outside Marietta.

In addition to the point about the economy and jobs above, the letter writer can use items from the talking points that I have also attached.

Please let me know who is willing to submit the next LTE on this topic.
