[Green] Letter to County Commissioners

Green Sanctuary Committee:

      In a previous meeting of the GSC I have informed the group about my unsuccessful effort to get the Washington County Commissioners to endorse the ReImainge Appalachia Resolution. In response to their decision to deny endorsing the Resolution, I have drafted a letter which poses the question to them: If not the ReImagine Appalachia Resolution, then what is their vision for future economic development of the county and the role of energy sources in that development?

     Pursuant to that effort, I have drafted the attached letter. Dawn has applied her eagle-eye editing skills to an earlier version of the letter. In addition, I have asked some folks at ReImagine Appalachia to comment on the draft letter. Those folks referred me to two researchers at  Ohio River Valley Institute. The folks at the former group advised me to get others to be signatories to the letter, and the latter two, Sean O'Leary and Ben Hunkler, advised me to include a summary of the very compelling case study of Centralia Washington, which you see at the end of the letter.

    I have checked with Dawn about the best way to get additional signatories starting with the GSC. We thought it would be best to ask people on GSC  to review the letter and then let me know if they want to be signatories. I will then add their names. I am also asking some other people in the community for their signatures, such as the organization, Fair Shakes and the Washington County Health Department. 

     Therefore, I am asking GSC to look over this letter, and to those people who would agree to sign I would ask for your definite word at our meeting this coming Sunday.
