Returning to as close to normal as we get...

Blue Rock Station is looking pretty fine this winter, even if we say so ourselves. We may finish the Tiny House this summer (fingers crossed). The new version of the Happy Nest has hosted a number of folks and by all reports it is “really cozy”.

After two years of hunkering down due to the pandemic, we are cautiously working to get back to “normal” for Blue Rock Station. Starting this month we'll be teaching a solar generator class in the Cleveland area (Feb 26th), and on February 22nd we'll begin an online solar installer class with the labs and certification test to be held in person at Zane State College in March.

Check out goat college online course, our Spring in-person workshops on plant propagation, designing and planting food forests with Chad Cully (agroforestry expert and designer/builder of the BRS food forest projects). Also, check out our interviews with Chad on the When the Biomass Hits the Wind Turbine podcast.

If that isn't enough, there are four themed tours scheduled that include a tour, a short workshop and tea.

One thing that I've truly enjoyed during last two years is consulting. I've been working with the Food Animal Concern Trust, Rural Action's Whole Farm Project and the Women, Food and Agriculture Network. So Where is the Silver Lining?

Supply chain interruption, pandemics, climate “weirding”, over turning elections...it's hard to believe these things are happening without any resolution.

During the past two years it has become clear that the lifestyle here at Blue Rock Station is built for these times. When the news is horrifying, it is comforting and reassuring to know that living in a resilient way helps to ease some of the discomfort and uncertainty of daily life.

We are feeling hopeful about many things, in spite of all of the craziness.

We'd love to hear your silver linings.

A Note from Jay and Me:

Winter is a special time for us to hunker down and think about what the rest of the year will bring to our lives.

Interns (if you know a potential one please be in touch) and monthly dinners are the people-oriented events I am looking forward to once it's warm again. Jay can hardly believe I am actually excited about the prospect of having so many visitors.

When I think back over last year and its highlights - they are definitely rooted in the times people came for a meal and to spend the evening. Admittedly, I didn't mind too much the break from visitors in 2020 and 2021, but I did mind not seeing friends. Hugging has become a big deal in life.

RIP our petit Cadeau who wagged his fluffy hind end and asked for belly rubs from all who visited BRS. We will miss you always.
