Green Sanctuary Committee{
After our meeting I had a chance to review a grant application
that was sent to me by Rob Grant, Grant Administrator for the County
Commissioners. I had read in the Marietta Times about this grant
application which has been awarded by the US Department of
Transportation.
The application describes a planning grant (not a construction
grant) for a two-year project called Marietta CROSS, which is a
collaboration among: Marietta College, the City of Marietta, Washington
County, the Port Authority and Wood/Washington/Wirt Interstate Planning
Commission. The basic plan is to arrange a safe, convenient, and
environmentally friendly transportation corridor for motor vehicles,
bicycles, and pedestrians from 7th & Butler, westward along Butler St to
the Muskingum River and across the Historic Harmar Bridge to the west
side.
This project relates to our discussion about the solar bench.
If our solar bench is to be included in the context of this project, it
should be where Cindy suggested--in front of the Armory, near Butler and
Front Sts. I'm disappointed that I only learned about this in the
newspaper--it was submitted in April and probably written last winter.
Two years ago Paul Lewis and I put together a grant application to a
state agency to revitalize the Historic Harmar Bridge; this application
was not advanced because of City Council objection.
The narrative for the RAISE application is attached.
