Wild Food Foraging and Helpful Plants

Join Annie Warmke and Laurel Hobden at Blue Rock Station on May 7th at 1
pm to take a walk on the wild side to select wild food plants that will
create a delicious salad and scrumptious pesto. Learn easy plant ID, and
various uses for a variety of plants found in the spring in southeast Ohio.

To Learn More About the Afternoon:
Wild Edibles & Healthy Plants – Walk & Talk with Laurel Hobden & Annie
Warmke

Laurel Hobden is one of our favorite go-to people when we need advice or
herbal plant support. That’s the reason Annie invited her to share her
wealth of knowledge, and her love of nature with a walk and talk at Blue
Rock Station.

Participants will walk the land at Blue Rock Station to discover what’s
growing, discuss foraging & plants with significant health benefits.
Everyone will have an opportunity to sample herbal tea, pesto & a
foraged salad (ingredients gathered on the walk) at the end of the
adventure.

Laurel Hobden’s herbal path began when she was diagnosed with breast
cancer over 30 years ago. She opted to do a medicinal plant approach
instead of chemotherapy. Laurel has shared her herbal knowledge giving
presentations at the Zanesville Metropolitan Library & Blue Rock
Station. Last year her urban gardens, where she grows over 30
“medicinal” plants, were featured on Simply Living’s Sustainable
Columbus Living & Garden Tour.
What  participants will learn:
How to identify at least five important herbal plants to promote health.
How to use the five plants in a variety of ways to support health and
wellness.
How to forage for plants.
How to make a basic herbal tea.
How to make a foraged salad
How to make a simple pesto.
What to bring:
Sturdy close-toed shoes, an Easter-type basket for foraging (don’t worry
we have plenty if you don’t have one), and something from your ancestors
or land to share. Don’t forget your good mood.
No smoking, drinking or drugging (cussing as always is expected every
once in awhile).

Everyone participating MUST be vaccinated.  The goal is to make sure we
have fun with no one harmed in the process.
Cost: $35 includes meal, instruction
