[Green] ReImagine Appalachia Resolution

Green Sanctuary Committee:

    I have been working on getting local public officials to endorse the ReImagine Appalachia Resolution. I have attached a copy of the resolution, which was signed recently by the Wood County Commissioners (WV). I am in the process of arranging a meeting with the Washington County Commissioners to endorse the resolution. I have also attached a list of the public officials throughout the country who have endorsed this resolution.

    I have also sent a copy of this resolution (with the signatures of the Wood County Commissioners) to Mayor Josh Schlicher of Marietta and to Geoff Schenkel, City Councilman. The mayor has already said that he is interested in endorsing this resolution. I would like to get the City Council to endorse it as well, but I am not a resident of Marietta City.

    I would ask if someone for Green Sanctuary who is a resident of the city to accompany me to a meeting of the City Council. I don't know when this will be, but I'll try to arrange it a mutually agreeable time. As soon as I hear from someone willing to accompany me, I'll contact the president of the city council and request an appearance.

    My plan is to ask for a just a few minutes at a meeting in the near future to introduce the resolution. This  may lead to a later discussion by Council on the economic vision that the City Council has for the city over  the next five or ten years.

    Please let me know who would be willing to accompany me  in this visit to City Council.

    I feel that Council and the Mayor owe me some favors. Paul Lewis (Marietta Rowing and Cycling Club) and I, as volunteers, just presented (on August 30) important data from the traffic counter on the Marietta River Trail, indicating the high level of use of the trail by runners, walkers, bicyclists etc.
