[Green] Return to Normalcy - the News from Blue Rock Station (June 2021)

A Little Jab will do Ya...  

The vaccine has brought a sweeping and reassuring sense of normalcy back into our lives these days.

A dinner party turned jam session took place earlier in the month.  Alexis Romero arrived from Gainesville FL just in time to rescue the spring garden planting and Destiny Ebersole returned from Michigan to work on completing the Tiny House. Everybody is vaccinated, without masks and hugging each other pretty regularly.

This "new normality" has us planning dates for:  a couple of make-up tours from 2020; more guests for dinner;  open events to participate in Tiny House skill learning;  Buffalo Gals Round Up classes; and a fall 70th birthday women's encampment for me.

All this new activity fills my soul - even though I needed the rest COVID brought.  There was time to re-think ideas and develop new approachs to Blue Rock Station's activities.  Life is indeed a grand adventure.

Happenings at or around Blue Rock Station  

We have a number of in-person and online events planned for the coming months:

June
June 5th and 12th: Buffalo Gals Round Up classes on basic electrical, plumbing and carpentry (future classes in spot welding and a women's encampment the last weekend in September). Fall classes with Tisa Watts, Columbus OH Garden Coach are being planned.  Round up classes are currently held at Cherokee Valley Bison Ranch, Thornville OH

June 19th: Father's Day Tour make-up for people signed up for 2020.  (only open to those who signed up for tours in 2020 that were delayed due to Covid)
July
July or early August (date not set yet):  Have you been here before, are fully vaccinated and have a passion for learning how to build an outdoor earth oven at the Overlook at BRS? So Where is the Silver Lining?  

When I look up at the news, which isn't nearly as often as when No. 45 was president, I am grateful for the life I lead...a life of focusing on the work of resiliency and loaded up with feeding 40 mouths (human and critters) every single day of the year.

As a young girl, if someone had told me that I would live this life, I would have laughed right out loud. I was a city girl, snubbing my nose at rural America and making no apologies. That didn't go down too well with the farmers and their kids that surrounded the hobby farm my parents insisted we had to live on because the economy was going to tank and we would starve in the upcoming apocolyse.

Fast forward several decades - and my path has led me to a life rooted in a quest to be frugal, to feel a sense of purpose in all the things I do in my life, and my love of animals. Along the way I've had to learn a number of skills that support how I try to walk the talk. Thank goodness for good timing, a supportive partner, and the ability to be flexible.
