I am in favor of postponing until fall. We should have better control of virus and more planning time.

I think #3 sounds great. It's something for everybody and doesn't require everyone to be in one spot. So much of it can be virtual. They could set up an large outdoor screen to show the virtual tours - like a small version of a drive-in and watch the virtual tour etc. Just a thought. I don't think 100 million vaccinations in a 100 days is going to do that much even if they manage to find enough vaccine to actually vaccinate half that many by then. The vaccine program is a mess left to the new administration. It seems best to plan that things need to be set up as if the virus is still a problem, and then if it isn't it's possible to re-think. Hello to the Earth Day Committee!
I hope all is well! It is always about this time of year we start preliminary meetings for Earth Day. Earth Day is Thursday, April 22nd, so we would usually have it that Saturday, April 24th. Biden is trying to get 100 MN people vaccinated in 90 days and that puts us to about that time period (if all goes as planned)…that being said, that only accounts for 1/3 of the US population and it will still be recommended to wear masks. With that framework in mind, I am touching base to see what we should do or not do this year.
Do we…
1. Have the event but have a more socially distanced set up? Less activities but more tables dedicated to an activity so we may have 3 tables for just one activity.
2. Postpone until fall?
3. Reimagine the event to more outdoor activities instead of our normal close interactive ones. Ie - a) Have a guided birding walk (Kroger Wetlands? Or elsewhere) ; b) have a guided nature walk (Vocational School) c) take things to the recycling Center Day? Have events that don’t require everyone to be in the same place at the same time? Get kids and families out and about? D) provide activity packets for kids to take and do at home? We could still have organizations participate by providing a craft package or coloring page etc?
4) Cancel until 2022. This number was obstinate on indenting! I was somewhat reluctant to even type it.
I’m brainstorming on Item 3 as you can tell but trying to think outside the box or in this case, the armory lawn ☺ Something to pass around to everyone for input.
Thanks,
Kathy
