My son, Dean, as a resident of Williamstown wrote a letter to the mayor about the Wetlands. Just before Christmas he got a call from the mayor. That was good, but the mayor told him that he doesn't really care about the wetlands. He does care about another gambling establishment in Williamstown, however. The mayor's response does reflect the challenges we have in describing to the public the importance of wetland areas. In a similar way Mayor Schlicher does not seem to understand the ecological importance of trees.
As with our efforts in CL, we need to continue to work on these public officials--they are opinion leaders.
