Green Sanctuary:

I attended a special meeting of CCL National group leaders on August 10. As you may know CCL has learned that in the U.S. of Representatives, the Democrats have resolved to pursue a budget reconciliation bill. This bill needs a majority to support it in order to pass. Carbon pricing is likely to be included in this bill that is being discussed over the next three weeks in the House, but Democrats have told CCL that the representatives need to hear from constituents that this is popular.

This opportunity is a chance to achieve legislatively what CCL has been
working towards in the full 14 years of its existence.

CCL is asking all members to call (and e-mail--although calling is viewed as more effective) their senators.

Representative Bill Johnson (Ohio 6th District)- 202-225-5705

Representative David McKinley (WV 1st District)- 202-225-4172

Please go through the specially developed link to make these calls.

            cclusa.org/house

and follow the directions. Your call(after you make it on your own) and email will be automatically logged.

You are advised to customize your message, but here is the recommended
wording to serve as the essence of the message for a Republican:

Please support the inclusion of carbon pricing in the Reconciliation Bill before the House. Carbon pricing is an
opportunity to avoid paying European border tariffs and remain competitive in
the world market.

This is a message based on CCL research optimize effectiveness.

We are aware that Bill Johnson and David McKinley are initially resistant to the idea of carbon pricing, but it is important to note that public officials like them are followers not leaders. If they think that many of their constituents are supportive of an issue, they will respond.

I have sent an email and called Johnson’s office and customized my message by saying that I live in Appalachia Ohio, and we need to re-imagine Appalachia and develop an economy based on renewable energy and jobs that stay in our region.

      Thanks for your participation

What do you think our goal for our chapter should be (i.e., number of
persons who respond)?
