What is the term and nature / terms of the lease? Is it still in place / valid and paid up to date?
Roger is usually a good source for trivia on items like this.
Does Da Vinci own ALL of it, or just a portion. In particular, downstream.
I doubt that a body that big is not continuously fed. Is there flow through it? What are Da Vinci's plans for rerouting the flow.
Dave

So, here is the latest that I have found out. First of all, the idea of filling the wetlands and building was pitched at a recent Williamstown City Council meeting by the owner. The owner has been interested in filling the wetlands for quite some time (more than a year). So, in recent days apparently, no trespassing signs have been put up at the wetland trail and the owner claims that someone was injured on the trail and that she was sued. From what I understand, the womens group lease was for a sum of one dollar annually.
Thank you all for taking an interest in this, between you all, MOVCA and others, I think that the owner is getting a feeling about the public sentiment. That may be enough to resolve the issue.

So--if there was a lease at one time, I wonder if an organization could be formed to raise funds and continue the lease if the owners are willing.

I don't know, but my recollection is that...
Da Vinci wanted to expand and wanted to buy the wetlands property.
DaVinci made it known that they wanted to fill the area - possibly only a portion of it.
A ruckus ensued, and citizens wanted the City to buy the property and make it a park.
I think there was a compromise agreed upon, where the area would be registered as a protected wetlands area, however,
DaVinci was allowed to buy the area to build their garden dining area overlooking the wetlands.
I could be totally wrong on this.

Who owns the property? There was discussion of this property some years ago. And, I thought it was deemed a protected/designated wildlife wetlands area. Who would know?

There are 100 addresses on the Mountwood Bird Club representing 100 people would would be livid if this wetland is destroyed. Please tell me what we can do to preempt this tragedy. I’m ready and willing to bring in 100 angry people.

Team,
I am told that the manager of DaVinci's restaurant in Williamstown wants to fill in the wetland next to her restaurant and develop that land into a Bistro or potentially a casino. This is a small but high quality wetland that provides numerous benefits, such as ecological services, wildlife habitat and community benefits from the developed trail around it and more. Nearly 100 species of birds have been documented at this little wetland. I feel that it is important for you all to be aware of this.
Vic
