I have roughly three dozen four-inch pots and will bring potting soil.

Is anyone planning to visit the recycling center on Saturday? We can check there for more pots.

Thanks, Rebecca! I’ll be there with a dozen or so smallish pots. I have room for some of them on the northwest side of my house. It’s sheltered, so I think they’ll be okay.

I have not received word from city council on our plan but am assuming that we are good with approval from the safety services director. The weather Saturday does not look good, so Sunday afternoon looks like our best time for riverbank work. 12:30-1:00?

We will be removing desirable plants (mostly asters and wingstem and any bulbs that may be unearthed) from the slope below Fort Street across from Gilman United Methodist Church on the west side of Marietta, then spreading and pinning down sheets of black plastic to solarize the area. There is on-street parking.

Please bring digging implements, gloves, and any spare pots. I have some but have not counted them yet. If any of you are at the recycling center this week, please get whatever smallish pots are available there. Who has space to keep some plants through the winter?

As a person with asthma, I recommend mask-wearing.

Because I have not heard directly from council and our resolution has not gone through the entire reading process, I have not contacted the press about the plant rescue. Unless you hear otherwise from me, we will meet on Sunday in the 500 block of Fort Street. There is a (rather steep) staircase to the riverbank across from the Methodists' parking lot, or the site can be accessed from a ramp on the Maple Street end of the block.
