That Pregnant Pause before Voting...  
My ancestors created in me a deep sense that our political heritage of voting is personal and something I must strive to be worthy of.  With that in mind, I wanted to share a fun voting story.

The year I was pregnant for my daughter was my first time voting Democratic (my grandma was appalled). On election day I woke up at 4 am in labor, six weeks overdue.

My best friend had arrived the night before so we could make onion rings and no bake cookies. We left the kitchen a mess and joked that doing so would make it a sure bet I would go into labor.  It was two hours to the hospital, but I was determined to vote.

At 6:30 I was waiting in the parking lot of the old Hebbardsville Presbyterian church, to vote in the basement.  My mother-in-law was a poll worker.

When she handed me the ballot I mentioned I was in labor. There were squeals and screams and “hurry ups” from the poll workers.  When I said I intended to go home first, do the dishes and take a shower, they all had a fit.

As it turns out, the election results arrived before the baby. 

Citizens vote because, from the beginning of civilization, we have looked for leaders who will help sustain our culture, our families, and our beliefs.  It is a peaceful way to express our opinions to those in power.  Or remove those from powerful positons when they have failed to keep their promises. 

I hope you will find a reason to vote this year. As corny as it may sound (and it sounds corny even to me), we need to vote because this land is our land, yours and mine.

So Where is the Silver Lining?  
The twinkle lights are strung around the porch that houses our 1994 new-to-us hot tub.  The screening will be in place any day now.

We've taken to saying, when something harsh or unpleasant happens, “But we have a hot tub.”.

It's clear that if we are going to get through the isolation of working and living pretty much with just the two of us (perhaps that sounds familiar), we have to have a ceremony that ends the work day.

For us it is turning on the twinkle lights and settling into a warm tub as the darkness of fall decends.  The dogs romp nearby and our muscles relax. 

Life is always full of challenges - but at least we have a hot tub.

A Note from Jay and Me:  
I can't help myself. 

I find that I view the wearing of masks as a sign of whether or not people care about other folks. 

I understand the arguement that wearing a mask is a matter of personal choice - the same way that following traffic laws or driving while drunk is an expression of individual rights.  Let me text all about the freedom of choice while I drive through this red light.

Not wearing a mask when indoors in a public space tells me that you don't care one lick about my health or the health of others.  

And I find it oddly amusing how creative some people can be in how they "pretend" to wear a mask.  It is under their nose or under their chin or hanging on one ear.  Might as well stick the thing in their pocket for all the good it is doing.

I know at some abstract level that a great number of people in our society are angry, mean and self-absorbed. 

I just hate having it put out there in my face - literally.
