Friends,
I can’t believe it: I assumed Michael Chisholm was on the GSC mailing list, but he was not! I’ve cc’d him on this message, forwarded what we discussed previously to him, and asked Ralph to add him to the list.
I ran into him again this evening, and he wondered why we weren’t discussing the grant. Well, we did…. but then we stopped. But Michael wasn’t in on the discussion!!!!!
Anyway, he is now, and tonight he said that the grant proposals need to be submitted by THIS FRIDAY! We need to make a decision on this soon. Michael will take the lead on sponsoring the proposal, and writing it up. We just need to come up with something that will fly with DuPont.
Personally, I LOVE Elin’s idea of swift towers along the river trail! Lots of communities are building them, since chimney swifts are on the decline, and people cap their chimneys, or increasingly build houses without chimneys. And, of course, we long ago took down the vast forests full of ancient trees, many of which had broken tops—the original nesting sites for the species.
Michael, do you think a seriously professional community-wide sustainability survey would fly with DuPont? Or funding a super duper Sustainable MOV Forum (but without a date being set)? Or a seriously great virtual Sustainable Marietta Forum?
Folks, do we have any other ideas? Michael said whatever we come up with, the money has to be spent in 2020, and if DuPont likes the results, it’s possible they’d look favorably on us again in 2021.
Put on your thinking caps and reply soon. Be sure to include mchisholm20 at gmail.com <mailto:mchisholm20 at gmail.com> on the To: or cc: line to make sure Michael stays involved in this conversation.
Thanks!

How about this: an electric car charging station (or two) in front of FUUSM that (on sunny days) would be powered by the SUN—on the roof of the sanctuary. Maybe we could have a few small panels installed on posts—part of the charging stations (?) that connected to FUUSMs system, too, but more visible to make it clear that cars charged there would be running on SUNSHINE!!
