Subject: Re: [Green] Proposed Fracking Waste Facility
I received an incident report from the National Response Center reported Saturday that a barge tug sank in the Ohio River in Henderson County, Kentucky. The three crew members on board were rescued. There was no mention of barges attached, so apparently there were none, but this just helps make the point that accidents happen with these barges, and the results can be disastrous.

Fellow Greenies:
With Darryl Ting's permission, I submitted the letter he had sent to the US ACE Huntington Office about the proposed fracking waste facility to Christina Myer, Editor of the Marietta Times and the Pkbg News & Sentinel. I sent the message to her on Thursday a.m. explaining that it was not intended as a letter to the editor, but my message is a request to assign a reporter to do a story on this issue (assuming that a story would get more attention than a letter). On Thursday afternoon I got a call from the reporter, Michelle Newbanks, who asked me for some names and contact information of people she might interview about the issue. I gave her that information on Dawn Hewitt, Rebecca Phillips and Al Tuttle, knowing that those three had written letters to the US ACE (I realize that some others have sent letters as well). I hope you three don't mind. I suggested that she contact the Huntington office of the US ACE for their statement on the issue.
I also sent a message to the news department at WTAP TV--have not yet sent Darryl's letter to them, nor any contacts other than myself.
I hope that these efforts result in more people getting concerned about this matter and more pressure on the US ACE at least to extend the comment period.
