The News from Blue Rock Station - March 2020
Hunkering down...
A great big thank you is in order to all of you who have written or called to check in on us. And an extra helping of "thank you" for those of you who have been willing to hang in there with us as we postpone events and classes.
Most of the messages we have received start with something like, “You guys were made for this.”
Well, not so sure about that, but I must say that our 3-month long Thanks for Nothing season is certainly good preparation for what appears to be ahead. Perhaps we can all use the next few weeks as an opportunity to reflect on what is important in our lives and give thanks for simply being.
A dear friend sent this quote:
“Do not lose heart -- we were made for these times”
- Clarissa Pinkola Estes
We are about to embark on a test of our collective resiliency. Some will meet the challenge better than others. We always say that sustainability is not about self-sufficiency, but about self-relience...the ability to meet shifting challenges as they present themselves.
Hopefully together, within our communities of spirit, we will meet the challenges together and emerge, changed as a nation - better for overcoming together whatever may await.
A Blue Rock Station Virtual Classroom with podcasts and a tour
Blue Rock Station now has a Virtual Classroom with topics focused on sustainable living and includes our podcast series plus a virtual tour of Blue Rock Station's sustainable living center (we hope to have that up in a couple of days).
If you're a teacher and need online content, please talk with us about opportunities to work together with an “Ask the Expert” format to engage students in a unique way.

If you sign up early (I'm not sure of the dates), you will be given the added bonus of an “Ask the Expert” opportunity for the class of your choice.
Where's the silver lining in all of this?
During a recent press conference, Dr. Amy Acton, Ohio Department of Health Director, stated:
“I hope nothing goes back to “normal” and that we let life wake us up.I can tell you that I already envision a future that is full of hope.
I've told you my story about how absolutely essential hope is. It's the one thing that made a difference in a really rough childhood that I had. And I feel more hope than I've ever felt. I actually believe that life is not shutting down right now.
So please, don't feel like this is pulling us apart. I believe this is drawing us to each other, and bonding us to each other. But it will have to be all of us. All of us following the direction the Governor is laying out, to go into this battle and make these sacrifices.
We will be with you every step of the way, and will continue to share everything as we know it. And I do see, I do see us on the other side. Please help us. Thank you."
A Note from Jay and me:
We hope you'll check-in periodically and let us know what you're doing, what you're planning, and how things are going in your neck of the woods. Are you planning a garden, more time for meals together, a new endeavor? Whatever it is we appreciate hearing about your life.
Kindest Regards, Annie
