GSC Members:

Governor DeWine just announced that he now supports repeal of HB 6, the fraudulently legislated bill that provides millions to First Energy (from rate-payers pockets) for their two nuclear power plants in Ohio. While I am not optimistic that it will not be replaced by a similar bill, we can at least push our legislators to give more support to renewable energy in a replacement bill.

Please feel free to borrow any of the verbiage from my message to Repress Jones (below) and add the governor's announcement (I sent my message before I knew about the governor's change of mind on this issue). Remember, if you live west of Third St. in Marietta, you have a different representative.

I respectfully ask that you strongly consider repeal of HB 6. It is now apparent with the revelation of the bribery scheme carried out by Mr. Householder, Speaker of the Ohio House, and others associated with him, that this bill was fraudulently legislated with a $60 million bribe from First Energy This bill clearly represents a rate-payer bail out of a company (First Energy) that was already in bankruptcy and hence poorly managed. Ohio needs a balanced energy strategy, but with the closing of coal-fired power plants, non-carbon alternatives, such as wind and solar, should be strengthened. HB 6 gave only a token gesture to renewable energy sources. Nuclear energy to provide electricity,, although non-carbon, is expensive to build and to maintain, but the biggest problem with this source of energy is how to manage, transport, and dispose of its waste product. In the place of HB 6 the legislature should re-introduce the incentives for renewable energy sources that were previously in place in Ohio--this option would be much less expensive than HB 6 for rate payers and if passed by the legislature without being sullied by bribes can be done with more probity than was done with HB 6..
