Fellow GSC Members:
I have just received the responses of Deep Rock Disposal LLC to the comments made regarding their application for the barge offload facility near Marietta. I had to apply for this document through the Freedom of Information Act, and it took over 30 days. It is attached.
Several of those who made comments confused an injection well with the river dock facility, which is what Deep Rock is applying for; such comments were irrelevant to the application. Below are some highlights of my reading of Deep Rock's responses:
1. They have documented a lot of compliance with regulations regarding spill prevention.
2. The actual content of the "traditional waste material" from fracking wells was never addressed in their responses. In their responses there are several references to "salt water brine and produced waste" without defining the later term. In our questions at the public meeting we should pursue this issue.
3. Most of the fracking waste will be from OH, PA and WV--none from foreign countries.
4. The major case that Deep Rock makes for this facility is that the barge transport of fracking waste will replace the current system of truck transport. Each truck travels an average of 250-300 miles round trip. While barge capacity is 21,000 barrels, each truck carrying fracking waste travels on state roads and city streets with much less per load. Barge daily offload will be 7,000-10,000 barrels.
5. Fracking waste will be transported by an existing pipeline (our concerns about the condition of this pipeline is not addressed) directly to injection wells. In their response to this question Deep Rock indicates that their injection well is directly across the road from the river dock on St Rt 7 (I did not know that there was an injection well so close to Marietta!!). In this response Deep Rock states that there will be "no additional truck transportation" of this waste material. Does this mean that they will not be transporting any of this waste material to other injection wells in the area? (we should clarify this).
Let me know if you have any other concerns/issues/question with their response to the comments.
