Hello dear Green friends!

How can it be that next Sunday will be the third of the month, and time for a Green Sanctuary Committee meeting again already? Let’s meet at 12:30, regardless of the time our Zoom social ends. Services are shorter than when they’re in person, so maybe we could hold GSC at 12:15 or even noon. I’ll add that discussion to the meeting agenda, below. Please let me know by Friday at 7 p.m. what else we need to discuss.

1. Deep Rock Disposal: A virtual public hearing will be August 7. RSVP is required in order to get the link. The rules of the meeting are here:https://www.lrh.usace.army.mil/Missions/Regulatory/Public-Notices/Article/2268826/lrh-2020-293-ohr/ <https://www.lrh.usace.army.mil/Missions/Regulatory/Public-Notices/Article/2268826/lrh-2020-293-ohr/>
I encourage you strongly to go there and read all about it, and RSVP to attend. The more I read that page, the more it sounds to me like the meeting is really only from 6 to 6:30. Let me know what you think? The first hour seems to be accepting questions via email. It says, "At 6:00 p.m., the audio portion of the meeting will begin.” What the heck. Let me know if your reading of that information is the same oas mine.

2. Cool Congregations: I keep getting email from Interfaith Power & Light encouraging us to register to become a certified Cool Congregation. I’m not motivated to follow up on it, but if anyone else is, that would be SWEET!! (Debra?) Their most recent email to me is below.

3. Any update on the DuPont Sustainability grant? I doubt it, but it seems like it ought to be on the agenda.

4. Cars parking on the Marietta Municipal water well field—and there’s a huge parking lot nearby. I haven’t done any follow-up on this, I’m sorry to report.

5. Anything on the Ohio Health Project? (Ginnie McNeil)

6. Other stuff I’ve forgotten. Again, please let me know what that is by 7 p.m. Friday.

Thank you, and hugs to you all!

> Dear Dawn,
>
> Thanks for for reporting the solar on your congregation in last year's Interfaith Power & Light Solar Survey, and congratulations on the efforts of your congregation to reduce their carbon footprint by going solar!
>
> Your congregation is now listed on the national Interfaith Power & Light Congregational Solar Directory and map: https://www.interfaithpowerandlight.org/congregational-solar-directory/ <https://www.interfaithpowerandlight.org/congregational-solar-directory/>
>
> Interfaith Power & Light would like to invite your congregation to apply to be an Interfaith Power & Light Certified Cool Congregation, as a way for Interfaith Power & Light to honor your congregation's efforts.
>
> Certification as a Cool Congregation is a way to applaud your congregation’s effort to reduce their carbon footprint and encourage them to do more. It’s also a way to announce your solar success and serve as a role model to others in your city or town.
>
> Read stories of other certified Cool Congregations and apply at: https://www.coolcongregations.org/get-certified/ <https://www.coolcongregations.org/get-certified/> <https://www.coolcongregations.org/get-certified/>
>
> Use the NEW Cool Congregations calculator for worship buildings to measure your congregation’s carbon footprint. Measure a “before” footprint as a baseline before you made changes to your building, then measure an “after” footprint to see how much energy your congregation has saved.
> Find the calculator here: https://www.coolcongregations.org/calculators/get-started/ <https://www.coolcongregations.org/calculators/get-started/> <https://www.coolcongregations.org/calculators/get-started/>
>
> For the purposes of this certification process IPL is asking for information on your congregation's gas and electric use, and some narrative questions on your project.
>
> Please report your energy use data for a period that ends before COVID-19 began, as it is likely your congregation energy use patterns were/are affected by the pandemic.
>
> Certification is free and carbon footprint reductions of 10% or more qualify.
>
> IPL will send your congregation a certificate suitable for framing, and a “badge” to post on your congregation’s website that links back to the story of your congregation's success that Interfaith Power & Light will write and post on our webpage of Certified Cool Congregations.
>
> Please contact me if you have any questions about certification or the application.
>
> Again, congratulations on your solar!
