Thanks, Rebecca. Republicans used to be for local control. I guess that principle ends with the promotion of plastics.

> As people across the country protest in defense of Black lives, the Sierra Club recognizes the need to dismantle systemic racism in the United States and within our own organization. We must reckon with how white supremacy -- both past and present -- has shaped our institutions and do the critical anti-racism work necessary to repair the harm done. The environmental movement does not exist in a vacuum, and it is our responsibility to use our power to help abolish systemic racism, which is destroying lives, communities, and the planet.

Proponents pushed this bill forward by declaring plastic bags somehow make us safer. Amidst a major crisis the Senate took time to inappropriately pass HB 242. Governor DeWine must veto HB242!

> Do not let the plastics industry exploit the COVID-19 pandemic on the premise that plastic bags somehow make us safer. Sierra Club's main priority is to protect human health and safety. Current peer-reviewed literature indicates the novel coronavirus was not detectable on cloth after two days, but was still viable after seven days on plastic.[1] Additionally, over 115 health experts from 18 countries put out a statement indicating reusable bags and containers are safe to use when employing basic hygiene.[2] Single use plastics are not inherently safer than reusables.

We must uphold Home Rule, the legal framework that defines governance by empowering cities to enact smart, evidence-based policies that meet local demands and challenges.

The pandemic has revealed how the communities hardest hit are often the same communities that suffer from high levels of pollution and poor access to healthcare. The fight for environmental justice cannot be separated from the fight for racial justice.
