Under each new layer... there is another layer  
There's a question that keeps coming to mind as I look up occasionally at the world at large...
“How do we wake ourselves and others up? “

Sometimes I wonder how I finally woke up. Did it happen all at once, or in layers like an onion. I now know that as  I peeled away one layer, the next one became visible, often needing to be left behind too.

With each new layer, things in life are left behind – friends, places, lies I told myself. And in their place come new truths, new friends and new experiences worth living.

It's clear to me now that in order to become more self-aware, I had to be pushed. It was often painful. I wanted to turn back. But once that new layer was exposed, there was nothing to go back to.

It seems this is where we are today. Lots of layers have been peeled off - left behind all at once, and now we must determine individually what is left to discover...to put in the place of what has disappeared from view.

Some days I hate being aware of this. But most days I am relieved to see that some of us are replacing the missing layers with a renewed demand for resiliency.

Staying home and not paying too much attention to the news (just enough to touch the edge of feeling insane but refusing to go further) has created some much-needed new habits that have slowed down our brains, and our bodies.

The new-to-us 1992 hot tub (which will soon be hooked up to a 1970's solar thermal panel) has helped this new regimen immensely.  Our daily “briefings” together involve relaxing in the suds while watching the growing variety of new birds pick at the ripening elderberries on the hill.

We'd love to hear about your silver lining moments.

Who could imagine a new dog and the 1992 hot tub could bring such calm and happiness but it has for sure.

We are feeling grateful for such richness in our life. And who could imagine Jay Warmke petting a dog regularly and walking him on the lead? Miracles do happen.
