Monthly News Roundup
September 25, 2019
The following is a slightly shortened version of this month’s board meeting minutes, provided to the FLMR membership to keep you up to date with what is going on in FLMR.
In attendance were board members Katy Lustofin, Di Krivchenia, Ty Williams, Sam Powell, Doug Albaugh; and executive director Tiffany Harvey.
The meeting was called to order by president Katy Lustofin.
Priority Business:
Board nominations – Sam and Matt were nominated for re-election next month. Katy has contacted Rick Mayle, and he is interested. He cannot be nominated until he has attended some board meetings.
Board recruitment and nomination policy – Katy distributed her final draft, with several edits and additions, and the board voted to adopt the policy.
D&O insurance – Tiffany expects to get a quote from the Schwendeman agency tomorrow, and the board agreed we should go ahead and get coverage with them if it is not more expensive than the policy we had with Peoples.
New Business:
Electrofishing demonstration by ODNR – we will schedule it for next year.
Summer environmental camp – grants are available, once we decide what to apply for. Tiffany is hoping to get information from Rural Action about how they plan and operate their outdoor education camps. She will also seek information from Marietta College, YMCA, and others. We are only considering doing day camps.
Gnome / Fairy Walks – Katy reports that this is a popular thing, and attracts families with children. She has obtained a supply of fairies from a neighbor, and suggests that we do a walk at Luke Chute in the spring.
Annual dinner and auction – we need auction items for our dinner in March. Tickets for experiences are the most popular auction item. Ty will report the date of the dinner at next board meeting.
Stewardship fund – Katy, Tiffany and Cindy are working on transferring our stewardship fund from Peoples Bank to MCF. Our fund at MCF has shown very good growth, and our account at Peoples does not earn interest.
Continuing Business:
River cleanup / Make a Difference Day – this Saturday, 9 to 12. Tiffany said the college students are excellent volunteers and well organized. They will sign liability waivers at the college before going to the site.
Raffle tickets – Tiffany reported that we have taken in only $325 on the quilt, 245 on the kayak, and 25 on the Jon boat. There have been some complaints about the delay on the drawing. The board decided that we should do the drawing, on all three items, at our next board meeting, on October 23. Tiffany may try to get some last-minute ticket sales.
FLMR Logo – Marietta College will not work on it before spring. We have to decide whether to wait, or get someone else to create a logo for us. Decision by October board meeting.
Kiosk – Tiffany will talk with Matt about logistics, buying materials at Lowe’s, and building it.
Old Business:
Membership event – about 40 people attended the event on Friday, August 23, at Ty’s B&B cottage. Everyone had a good time and the event was very successful, in spite of musician Sadie Johnson not showing up.
Additional notes from Executive Director:
Tiffany is working on the final draft of application for this year’s Clif Bar Grant, due October 1.
She will be giving a pollinator habitat presentation to the Morgan County Master Gardeners on October 7.
Future Dates:
Next FLMR board meeting – Wednesday, October 23 at 3:30 p.m., at the Beverly library.
Work days at Luke Chute Conservation Area:
Saturday, October 26, 9:00 to noon – tree of heaven removal
Sunday, November 10, 2:00 p.m. – benches, bird boxes, kiosk, tree trimming
Future board meetings:
WEDNESDAY, October 23, and November 20, at Beverly library at 3:30
December – by email (no meeting)
THURSDAY, January 23, February 27, March 26, and April 23, at Beverly library at 3:30
Respectfully submitted,
Doug Albaugh, Secretary
