Hi all,
I want to let you all know about the excellent program that MOVCA will be having tonight in Parkersburg at First Christian Church, 1400 Washington Ave, Parkersburg 7pm
i think it may interest many of you, and hope some of you will attend.
Here is Adeline Bailiey’s press release information:
MOVCA Program Focuses on Climate Change and Public Health
PARKERSBURG, West Virginia – The increasing effects of the climate crisis on public health, and the need to be prepared as a resilient community will be the focus of "Ready or Not? Climate Change and Public Health," the November 21, 2019 Third Thursday meeting of Mid-Ohio Valley Climate Action.
Guest speaker Keith Alvey, Division Disaster Executive, Crossroads Division of the American Red Cross, will speak to the group about overseeing field activities for all Disaster Programs in a region that includes Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and West Virginia.
"In West Virginia, we have seen the flooding that resulted from extreme weather events," said Adeline Bailey, MOVCA member. "We're ever grateful for the Red Cross volunteers who bring help. But we also know that being prepared in the face of future disasters can save lives and mitigate property damage. While things are relatively calm, we hope to learn from the Red Cross and others what steps we can take - both as individuals and as a community - to be ready and resilient."
The program will also include a video recording of a presentation by Dr. Nicolas Zegre, Ph.D, Associate Professor of Forest Hydrology, at WVU, and Director of WVU Mountain Hydrology Laboratory, recorded at a recent sustainability forum hosted by the West Virginia University Law Center for Energy and Sustainable Development.
The meeting is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in the fellowship hall of the First Christian Church (1400 Washington Ave., Parkersburg, WV). MOVCA's Third Thursday programs are open to the public and free of charge; anyone interested is welcome to attend.
