Dear Rebecca,
In October, the Keystone 1 pipeline leaked 380,000 gallons of tar sands into a wetland and the surrounding area in North Dakota. This is one in a series of more than a dozen leaks and spills1 this project has had in the last decade, and yet the Trump administration remains dead-set on approving the even larger, proposed Keystone XL pipeline. Their latest inadequate environmental review even looks at the spills and leaks, and the administration wants to approve it anyway!
Today is the deadline to make sure they don't skirt critical environmental laws in a rush to get this harmful pipeline approved.
Stand with us against this dangerous project: Tell the Trump administration that the Keystone XL pipeline is too risky to build.<http://click.emails.sierraclub.org/?qs=c60b86d152859c43ecd262a6953b6828344ad5adba73509203b0377d4e8dbc80ed4d7bca584531b865e00678ad3736b395ed65ad702a6136>
When the Trump administration first took power, fossil fuel corporations thought it would be easy to trample all over us and get dirty fuel projects like Keystone XL approved, but we've been stopping them all over the country with people power and lawsuits, and that's because of you.
You probably get emails like this a lot, but it's important for you to know that adding your name to official public comment periods like this is a big part of how we're all able to fight back. We can show the government we're not just technocrats fighting over complicated environmental laws, but that we're everyday people who rely on these laws to protect us from dirty and dangerous projects like the Keystone XL pipeline.
The Trump administration wants to trample all over these laws and it's up to us to make ourselves counted and let them know we're not going to let them do it on Keystone XL.
This fight has never been easy, but we won before because we refused to back down. We are not about to stop now. We can win again. Submit your public comment now.<http://click.emails.sierraclub.org/?qs=c60b86d152859c43487977699ba58cd52979f77f801452452787d9bf7d1578410906262b80dc9e30b5a4ce0db93e9abe941de13fb1801610>
Keystone XL would carry 830,000 barrels of the world's dirtiest oil -- tar sands -- every day from Alberta, Canada, to the U.S. Gulf Coast. It would be responsible for annual greenhouse gas emissions each year equal to 37.7 million cars -- a disaster for our climate. It's also yet another example of the government trampling on the rights of Indigenous peoples: Keystone XL would cut directly through Sioux treaty lands and near several other tribal reservations and the Ponca Trail of Tears.
We know that the Keystone XL pipeline is all risk and no reward. Instead of doing an analysis that would show that this project is too risky to build, they are avoiding anything that would keep them from moving full steam ahead. If tens of thousands of us participate in this official public comment period, they'll have no choice but to hear our objections to this sham review loud and clear.
Take action to tell the Trump administration that the dangerous KXL pipeline must not be built.<http://click.emails.sierraclub.org/?qs=c60b86d152859c43e3efef725a2adcbd1848c4f42a90ecdcaa939f2ebf5f060f49b141550ccc264774d57597008c7e2dbf3de16339b7602b>
