I have sent my (respectfully expressed) objections to the brokering of leasing of public lands to Energy Net.

They apparently broker gas and oil sales and leases for private land owners, too. I find their entire business objectionable, but especially so when the land they are brokering is public. It seems reasonable to me to contact them and tell them we object to their brokering leases of public lands for fossil fuel development. We can say that their website offers no way to object to an auction. They won’t care. Still, it would be healthy for them to hear that some people think that their business is immoral. (But following Bill McKibben’s advice to be respectful.)

But there are other fees, so even if we bid $10 an acre and it was the hbone parcel, it wouldn’t be $50—there are other fees. But we wouldn’t get the bird. Energy companies are going to bid a million dollars to buy all parcels. Even so, it might be fun to put a bid on ES-001 for $50, just to make a statement. For all I know, though, there might be a fee even to place a bid. Just musing, not proposing.

I think we should do this in addition to contacting Kathleen Atkinson. We need to awaken all of those involved in the process of selling our land.
