Thanks for the explanation and rationale.

In addition to the reduction-of-clutter goal, there was the aim of reducing the burden on Roger and Mike (or someone) for monitoring and clearing out the recyclables on a weekly or as needed basis. Asking them or someone else to dig through a catch-all bin and sort them for delivery to the recycle center would increase the burden on whomever. A 96 gallon bin (I think that’s what Roger said…)would probably fill up a lot quicker than in 2-4 months.
Also, under this proposal, the matter of asking members and friends and outside organizations to understand and comply with the sort of complex requirements (which bin for what) is significantly simplified.
I’d add that the added $30 to the church’s trash bill is a small price to pay to betoken the whole church’s commitment to recycling beyond just that of the GS Committee.
Dawn: thanks for putting this together. You might add these reasons if you think appropriate.

(For reasons I don’t understand, at least for curbside residential recycling, Rumpke accepts only bottle-shaped plastics. On the other hand, the Marietta Recycling Center accepts plastics numbers 1,2,4 and 5, and plastic bags). So, we’d still need three bins in the kitchen.
