     Attached is the late-breaking news about Dave Ballantyne's plan for funding the solar panels. I don't know if you want to discuss this item at a June GS meeting. There needs to be some discussion about how others can participate in support of Dave's plan --in a simple way that does not complicate the arrangement for sharing tax benefits. This piece will appear in the June Confluence that Adeline is preparing:

    There has been much discussion about the funding options for our planned solar panels, which are part of our plans for renovation of our historic building.  You may nominate Dave Ballantyne for UU sainthood because he has presented a funding plan of his own. Dave is offering the fund the solar panels through his own LLC (private business entity). This will allow him to reap the tax benefits of investing in renewable energy sources (a non-profit entity like FUUSM cannot claim these benefits).  In May Dave met with Chip Pickering of Pickering Associates and with Dan Harrison of our Buildings & Grounds  Committee and George Banziger,  President of the FUUSM Board, to discuss his plan. Subsequent to that meeting Mr. Pickering submitted a proposal for acquisition and installation of the solar panels on  our church building. Pickering's plan costs about 50% more than the proposal we had been offered from another organization,  but it will cover twice as much roof space with the panels.  We are still investigating ways for people to participate in Dave's funding plan that do not involve the complicated arrangements of sorting out how to allocate the tax benefits.
       Our new roof, construction of which should have begun by time of this publication, should support the number of solar panels being proposed.
        More details to follow when Dave returns from his vacation in early June.
