Hey Mike:
I was accepted at Kent State and would have been there at the time of the shooting. As it was, I went to the Cleveland Institute of Art. But we, as well as Case Western Reserve students ,protested and blocked Euclid Ave in the University Circle Area. That is until the mounted police came. I did not know until much later, the horses would not have stepped on us if we had curled up in a ball!  I still think about that shooting and the students that died.

Nice to hear from you. Your blog writing about your new neighborhood is interesting and informative. I know very little about Toledo, although I had a freshmen college friend  and later roommate from there. Bruce Burgen graduated from Bowsher High School in 1968.
As a sophomore he photographed the 1970 student protests on the Oval at OSU following the Kent State University shootings.  Tear gas and Ohio National Guard members armed with bayonets were a concern for us as there was a 10:00 P. M.  curfew.  The NG members were mostly our age and maybe I could have been one of them if not attending college. I felt sorry for their circumstance and assignment ordered by the Governor.  They were likely as uncomfortable as we were.
