[Fuusmchat] Information about Friday, February 28 Economic Blackout and Other Stuff

Hi UU Friends:

 

Here is the information and more that I gave in the announcement on Sunday
at church.

 

This Friday, Feb. 28 is a 24 hour Economic Blackout. From "midnight"- 12:00
am on Thursday through Friday until 11:59 pm Friday night. ( Does that make
sense?) - Please do not make any purchases if possible - gas, food, eating
out, clothing etc. Please plan ahead. Only buy at locally owned businesses
if you need to.  

 

Here are other boycotts suggested by John Schwarz on his "The People's Union
USA" website and his FB page. Interesting guy check out his site.

 

March 7 - 12 boycott - Amazon

March 21 - 28 boycott - Nestle ( and all their companies ) Need to do my
research.

April 7 - 14 boycott - Walmart

April 18 - Second 24 hour Economic Blackout

April 21 - 28 boycott General Mills

 

Erica Chenoweth wrote a book - "Why Civil Resistance Works: The Strategic
Logic of Nonviolent Conflict"

In it she states - "Countries in which there were nonviolent campaigns were
about ten times likelier to transition to democracies within a five year
period compared to countries in which there were violent campaigns - whether
the campaign succeeded or failed." She is giving me hope! If you google her
and the book, you can find interviews with her that give more info about
what is in the book.

 

She also states that if only 3.5 % of the population protest in non violent
ways that they will be successful And for the USA that would be 11.5 million
people!

Now do your "homework"! I hope this helps. I will add more information as to
other sites or actions we can take. And I do hope other members will also
send out emails of their findings so we can all take positive political
