Subject: [Fuusmchat] Attempted coup
I’m pasting my open letter to Rep. Johnson. Also sent this to the Times but we’ll see if that happens: This was a thread started on fuusm-l but I’ll move it here.
I didn't vote for you. Our positions on several social and financial issues differ. However, you have won reelection in this heavily Republican district, and I still accept and respect that you are our representative to the government in Washington, DC.
Regardless of our differences on policy, if I encounter a problem in some issue with, say, the Social Security Administration or the Internal Revenue Service, and run up against some unresponsiveness on their part, I expect that your constituent services operation will provide assistance and intercede with the particular agency to determine the facts of the matter and impel them to resolve it or advise me of the facts to show me evidence of my error—to get at the truth. And I would thank you for that effort whichever way it went.
So, you are not only my representative to the government, you are the government's representative to me and all your constituents. You have failed in this role and betrayed my trust in you in order to parrot the specious fulminations generated by our President and his lackeys of election irregularities that have been debunked ad nauseum by courts and election officials based on the fact of no evidence. Talk all you want about bias in the media—there's plenty on both sides. But those differences in perspectives all need to originate in some facts of the matter—the truth—and if one side or the other ignores or hides or contradicts the facts, I would at least expect my representative to communicate the facts to us directly, as when Senator McCain disabused a constituent of a fallacy about Barack Obama in that town hall meeting in a prior campaign.
This you have adamantly failed to do as evidenced by your press release of January 5, in which you stick to the Trump Party line. Then, the next day, when the inevitable result happened of having your workplace disgustingly violated by those who were inspired by that amalgam of lies and fantasies, you voted to uphold the objections in the certification process.
Therefore, you demonstrably betrayed your constituents, your supporters more so than me, by representing the Party to them rather than the truth. All you need to have communicated is that there was no evidence of problems with the election per the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency and many, many courts, and many state and local officials of both parties—and voted accordingly.
I urge you to at least apologize to us all for this and be straight with us to help quell the chance of repetitions of the violence you have, in truth, abetted. Where do your loyalties lie?
Sincerely,
Ralph N. Olander
