[Fuusm-l] An hour of environmental action: You're invited!!

Dear FUUSM friends,

Does it happen to you that you get an email about some environmental outrage that encourages you to write to your members of Congress, state legislative reps, or some other public official, and you think, "I'll do that!!" And then by the time you get through the rest of your email, you've forgotten about it, and don't get around to it? (This happens to me almost every day.) Are you willing to set aside one hour a month—7 p.m. on the second Thursday—for environmental activism? We're going to do it!  Starting on January 9, at 7 p.m., in the social hall and on the Sunday services Zoom link

The Green Sanctuary Committee is hosting an event in which we will spend 15 or 20 minutes learning about an environmental issue, and then 40 or 45 minutes doing something about it! We will figure out effective talking points, write letters on paper or compose email to the critical person or agency, sign postcards, and otherwise do things that effect positive change. For the inaugural event, George Banziger will give us an overview of the problems of fracking brine waste—a big, disturbing issue in Washington County—and then we will take action: writing to state office holders and legislators, to our county commissioners, and otherwise DOING SOMETHING about this problem. I hope you'll join us and bring all your friends. Please spread the word with any like-minded individuals or groups you can think of. There is power in numbers!!
