How many Members of Congress does it take to change a flat tire? (Read on.)

Hi, FUUSM friends!

I'm back from an amazing birding and cultural trip to Extremadura, Spain,
and deeply grateful to those who enabled my trip by subbing for me in the
FUUSM Office: Lloyd Elliott, Shari Ballantyne, Ted Goertzel, Nancy Luthy,
and Jane Tumas Serna.

*Leaf Sweeping/Raking/Blowing Help Needed, Saturday at 10 a.m.*
The Street Department will begin vacuuming the leaves on Marietta city
streets on November 12, and they'll probably hit Third Street that very day
or soon after. Therefore, our hard-working building steward, Wendy, needs
help with leaf sweeping/raking/blowing. Let's plan a quick work party to do
this at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 9. And if Saturday is rainy or if more
leaves fall overnight, we can follow up after the service on Sunday, Nov.
10. The plan is to move the leaves below street level to the green area
behind the courtyard so they can decay in place, feeding the soil and
respecting the fireflies, butterflies, and other critters that are
gestating in those leaves. Leaves on the public sidewalk and grassy area
need to be moved to the edge of the curb for vacuuming, and that will be
the primary task for volunteers. It's a job that takes Wendy several hours
when working alone, but will take less than an hour with a handful of
volunteers. Bring a rake or a leaf blower*, this Saturday at 10 a.m.*, with
a rain date or catch-up date after service on Sunday. Okay? Many hands make
light work! Thanks!

*Last Day to Contribute to Norwood Thanksgiving is Sunday, Nov. 10*
*Thanks to all who have already contribute*d to the Norwood United
Methodist Thanksgiving project--in which they prepare and distribute
hundreds of to-go meals on Thanksgiving Day. Forty of those meals will be
served in the FUUSM Social Hall to (mostly unhoused) clients of the
Community Resource Center, and we are underwriting those meals. The plan is
to collect funds for this project through Nov. 10, and then send one check
to Norwood UM ASAP, so they can purchase food and other supplies for the
meals. So, if you want to contribute, please write a check to FUUSM, with
"Norwood Thanksgiving" in the memo line, and mail it to FUUSM--ASAP, or
hand it to Dawn, or drop it off at the FUUSM office* on or before SUNDAY,
NOV. 10*. (Cash is fine, too, but please don't mail it!)
