March 4th! The date that is a command. (This concludes the joke portion of
the Weekly Update.)
*Service Auction Items needed!*
It's time to start thinking about what you'd like to donate to FUUSM's
biggest fundraiser of the year. There are three categories: Live auction,
silent auction, and set price. (No country store this time.) Especially
popular are events that feature food! This can be as simple as a
country-style dinner, a picnic, an ethnic adventure, garden party...you get
the idea. Not able to host a party, but love to cook? Offer your specialty
to be prepared and delivered to the winning bidder. We're also fond of
games: a card party, puzzle competition...how about charades? Outdoor
adventures: bird walk, nature hike, kayak/canoe trip, bike tour, local
history tour. And let's not forget services: car wash, simple will,
handyman, genealogy, chauffeur, dog walking, pet-sitting...to name but a
few. Art, jewelry, food (again!), useful things, unique things, garden
decor make good silent auction items. Really special ones make good live
auction items. Cindy Brown is, once again, preparing a catalog for all
auction items. Her deadline for items is March 29. Attached is a form with
the info Cindy needs to prepare bid sheets and the catalog. You can print
this form, fill it out, and hand it to Cindy or to the church lady, or just
email the information Cindy needs to: labrown at gmail.com. Pre-printed forms
are also available in the social hall or in the FUUSM office.
*Kudos to FUUSM's Caring Committee!*
Thanks to all who helped with Brodie DeLancy's Celebration of Life service
and the meal afterward, but especially to Caring Committee Chair Cathy
Rees, for organizing a meal that amply fed approximately 150 people!!
Thanks to all who cooked, set up, served, and cleaned up. It takes a
village, but a strong village requires a well-organized, leader--and Cathy
Rees deserves a huge shout of gratitude.
*Please Sign Up to Help with Coffee Hour, Starting April 1*
Can you imagine FUUSM without Coffee Hour? For Coffee Hour to happen each
week requires an army of faithful volunteers. Without those teams, there
will be *no coffee hour.* The current schedule of Coffee Hour & Cleanup
volunteers will run through March 31, but that schedule doesn't work so
well. So, starting in April, let's try something new: Will *you* sign up to
help with Coffee Hour just *six times per year*? Please claim the first or
second or third or fourth Sunday of every *odd* month, *or* every *even*
month, and email *dawnbirder at gmail.com <dawnbirder at gmail.com> *with your
preference. Six times of year on a regular, predictable schedule? That's
not too demanding, is it? NOTE: When you are a Coffee Hour Volunteer, you
are *NOT* required to provide food to share (although many do). Coffee Hour
volunteers are responsible for coffee creamer—that's all! Often, we're well
stocked on creamer, so all the coffee hour volunteer needs to do is show
up, set up, brew coffee, serve it, and clean up. *Please sign up. Talk to
Dawn or email her. *
*Should We End Coffee Hour at 1 p.m.?*
Someone has suggested that more folks might sign up if we can make coffee
hour end at 1 p.m. instead of 1:30. It's a long shift from 10:30 to 1:30
(especially when people linger), so, if we end Coffee Hour at 1 p.m. it
will be less of a time commitment for the volunteers. If the choice is
between a short coffee hour with ample volunteers, and NO COFFEE HOUR
because of a volunteer shortage, I know which one I'd choose. What do you
think? Would you be more inclined to sign up if Coffee Hour ends at 1 p.m.
sharp? Let Dawn know your thoughts: dawnbirder at gmail.com.
