First UU Family,
The FUUSM calendar has been full of big events this spring … a good sign.
And, the regularly scheduled Women’s and Men’s Groups are routinely well
attended … another good sign. As a result, we are making some adjustments
to the scheduling of our Circle Suppers.
First, we are moving from the 2nd Saturday to the 4th Saturday of the month
to avoid conflicting with the Women’s and Men’s Groups which meet regularly
on the 2nd and 3rd Wednesdays. This way we can avoid scheduling two FUUSM
social gatherings in the same week. If the calendar allows, we will move
to a 5th Saturday to avoid doubling up. When we can’t avoid doubling up,
we will skip that month.
Second, we won’t have Circle Suppers on months when large FUUSM events are
just before the 4th Saturdays. These events take up a lot of people’s time
and energy, and a Circle Supper seems like just too much. Similarly, we
will avoid November and December with their big holiday celebrations late
in the month.
So, the schedule for the Circle Suppers for the rest of the year looks like
…
July 27 … at Shari Ballantyne’s (actually a Circle Lunch)
August 31 (5th Saturday) … need a host
September … no Circle Supper, Climate Justice event
October 26 … need a host
November & December … no Circle Suppers, holidays
Please consider hosting a Circle Supper in August or October. The host is
responsible for the basics (the place, eating utensils, etc., and
clean-up). The meal can be planned or truly pot luck, or anywhere in
between. And teaming up with other people can make the set-up and clean-up
go much easier, and be a lot more fun.
The FUUSM Social Hall is available for Circle Suppers and is a great option
(especially for larger groups) because much of the set-up requirements are
already there. Hosts can also choose to have a smaller group just around
the dining table in their home. Smaller groups have a totally different
dynamic in terms of conversation. So it is really up to the host to decide
what kind of Circle Supper experience they would like to offer.
So, please consider hosting a Circle Supper ... remember that the main idea
is to get together, get to know each other better, and have a good time.
So, team up and sign up!
