There are few UU congregations in Wyoming, and recently when an elderly UU
died in a small town, the family approached a Methodist minister and asked
her if she could perform the service. She said she would be happy to do so,
but to be on the safe side, she had to contact her bishop in Denver for
permission. A few days later she received a reply, from the bishop......
*Announcements *
*Green Jacket*
Did you leave a green jacket in the sanctuary yesterday? Wendy, our
excellent building steward, found it and hung on the coat rack at the
bottom of the steps.
*Save the Date for a Sustainable Supper: September 30*
FUUSM's Green Sanctuary Committee invites you to a potluck Sustainable
Supper at 6 p.m. Saturday, September 30, in the FUUSM Social Hall. As you
plan a dish to share, consider the social and environmental impacts of the
ingredients and processing required for thoseitems to arrive in your
kitchen. This is mindful cooking, and as a Unitarian Universalist, it is up
to you to figure out what "righteous" food is. Vegan? Vegetarian? Meat from
an animal that was locally and humanely raised and slaughtered? Home-grown?
Locally grown? Organic? Fairly traded? What were the working conditions of
those who grew or harvested the raw ingredients? We leave it to each person
to decide what constitutes "righteous" food choices, and then to prepare a
delicious meal to share with others who have done the same mindfulness
exercise in their food planning. At the meal--in the past we've called them
"Just Dinners"--we often discuss sustainable food as we enjoy it, as well
as other aspects of sustainable living. We hope you'll join us! Please RSVP
to Dawn at hewitt at earth-maker.com so we know how many chairs to set up! By
the way, The Methodist bishop replied: "Permission granted. Bury all the
Unitarians you want!"
*Don't forget: *Be *kinder than necessary* this week! That's good advice
from Concretia!
