2023 Plant Sale—Plants and Volunteers Needed
Mark your calendars! The 2023 FUUSM Plant Sale will be held on Saturday, May 27, from 10:00-2:00, with proceeds going to the Buildings and Grounds fund. Those of you who have shopped our sale in the past (and that is all of you, isn't it?) know that we are Marietta's best source for good plants at reasonable prices.
BUT—we cannot have a plant sale without plants, so we need the lovelies for which you no longer have a home. Please bring your LABELED plants to the church courtyard on Thursday, May 25: our pricing volunteers cannot identify every plant that our wonderful FUUSM gardeners grow, and shoppers seem reluctant to take home random bits of greenery. (They probably watched Little Shop of Horrors one too many times.)
AND—we cannot hold a sale without workers. We need people to set up tables and price plants on Friday, May 26 (plant knowledge a plus but not required—they also serve who only place the stickers), and people to set up, sell plants, help customers move plants, take money, and help tear down on Saturday and Sunday. If you would like to volunteer, please contact Rebecca Phillips at bennphil at hotmail.com. The Rosebuds will also be taking names at coffee hour. We need you!
In keeping with our green commitments, we are restricting the sale to non-invasive plants. We will not be accepting the following:
• mimosa
• privet
• barberry
• rose of sharon
• burning bush
• Bradford pear/callery pear (now illegal to sell in Ohio anyway)
• miscanthus (Chinese feather grass, maiden grass)
• Japanese or bush honeysuckle
• porcelain berry
• English ivy
• yellow flag iris (now listed as one of WV's “dirty dozen”)
