FUUSM Family,

Three people signed up for this Tai Chi Class (a FUUSM Service Auction
item), and we have agreed on our initial schedule. We plan to start on
July 13. Our one hour classes will be on Thursdays at 4:30pm and Sundays
at 6:30pm. There is room for six, so I am opening it up for three more
late entries. Please contact me by e-mail if you are interested.

Background .....

I have found that beginners trying to learn tai chi have several
simultaneous hurdles … learning what to do and how to do it, and developing
the necessary muscle strength. So, it is easy for beginners to get
discouraged … especially when it looks so easy. Hint: it’s not, but
definitely doable.

This Introductory Class is designed to get you over that hump. We’ll start
out with twice a week 1 hr. sessions for the first month. That should get
you enough repetitions to develop your muscle strength and muscle memory to
execute a basic tai chi form. Then we’ll cut back to weekly 1 hr. sessions
for the next month and learn additional forms (probably another 3-4
forms). By then, you’ll be in a good position to decide whether you want
continue on and learn all 24 forms.

To continue, you can re-up for another $50. Learning all 24 forms will
probably take another 3-4 months. At the end of that period, you’ll be
fully functional in tai chi. By that, I mean you’ll know what to do, how
to do it, and able to do it without an instructor.

Following that, you can join a group of tai chi class graduates that meet
monthly. We call them tai chi re-unions. I do coaching to help with
individual issues, but mainly we just enjoy doing tai chi together.
