Dear FUUSM Friends,
According to our records, there are *only 14 tickets left* for the Three
Sisters fund-raising dinner on July 16 at 6 p.m. in the FUUSM Social Hall
(232 Third St.). If you haven’t purchased a ticket or reserved your ticket
yet, I encourage you to do so as soon as possible by emailing Kelcey Jacobs
at cv162 at yahoo.com with “Three Sisters Dinner” in the subject line.
Tickets are $20 each. The $1,000 we hope to raise from the dinner will be
sent to Environmental Justice Warriors and Water Protectors—Indigenous
people who are actively and effectively fighting greed to protect the lands
and waters of the Earth that we all share. We are all connected!
Inspired by Native American cuisine, here is some of what we will be serving
—Bison meatballs
—Smoked fish
—Corn on the cob
—Wild rice dish
—Succotash and and other variations on the three sisters: corn, beans, and
squash
—Fry bread and bannock
—Fruity desserts
—Sassafras tea
There will be vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and some low-carb items on
the menu, but indigenous food tends to be meaty and carb-laden. Very little
dairy, though. FYI
After-Dinner Program: Our own Cindy Taylor will show us some prized pieces
from her collection of baskets made by Indigenous People using materials
native to their environment. Cindy herself is a (retired) White Oak
Basketmaker who has worked with some of the Indigenous artisans who created
the baskets.
Please join us for an evening of food and fellowship in support of a worthy
cause!
Adeline Bailey, for the Honoring Indigenous Peoples Committee
*I should also add that if you can't make the dinner, we will gratefully
accept donations to our fundraising efforts.*
