This Sunday, 1/16/2022, we will be discussing two essays from the January
13 issue of the New York Review of Books:

page 26, Sean Wilentz, "The Paradox of the American Revolution
<https://docs.google.com/document/d/13-sNmQz5S6mWHm1Py_X7Q3zuG5lTqCVQpdI2SmS9SJ0/edit?usp=sharing>,"
a review of recent books by Woody Holton and Alan Taylor that offer fresh
perspectives on early US history but overemphasize the importance of white
supremacy as its driving force. This relates to the current controversy
over the teaching of American history in the schools.

page 49, Fintan O'Toole, "Arum Arum Araaaaaagh
<https://docs.google.com/document/d/1MSPlBbAEHHIPJOH9c6VAeV84nh3Al8nPaE93uEIP7HU/edit?usp=sharing>,"
about how Boris Johnson’s clownishness has become both mortifyingly
infantile and, for those who have to live in the pandemic-stricken country
(The United Kingdom) he governs, quite scary. Johnson is often considered
to be the British Trump, but his popularity is failing even more recently
than it was when this article was written. It makes some interesting points
about "lying without deceiving".

Please check out the readings and join our lively discussion, either in
person or online. All are most welcome.
