Dear FUUSM Friends,

 

Earth Day Marietta will be celebrated Saturday, April 23, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., on the grounds of the Armory. FUUSM’s Green Sanctuary will be there, sharing a booth with the Ohio-6 (Marietta) Chapter of of Citizen’s Climate Lobby, and also possibly with Mid-Ohio Valley Climate Action. 

 

The organizers of the event (non-UUs except for me) would LOVE to have a non-partisan voter-registration table at the event. Let’s make sure those who care about the environment are registered to vote!! 

 

What we need is for someone to organize this: To be in touch with the Washington County Board of Elections to get the voter-registration forms, and know what is required to complete them, and to staff the booth, and then to deliver the voter registration forms to the Board of Elections Office. Or, maybe the deal is just to sign up people who want to receive a voter-registration form by mail. I don’t know. I don’t know anything about how one citizen can help register another to vote. But I do know that it’s a worthy endeavor for Earth Day, and it would be great to have a couple of volunteers to do this. What I’m really hoping for is someone who will LEAD this endeavor, plus a couple helpers. I will be out of town that weekend, so all I can do is to get this ball rolling. 

 

Note: Those who register at the event (or soon after) won’t be able to participate in the May 3 primary, but they might be able to vote in the follow-up primary for state legislators, and they will certainly be able to vote in the critically important midterms in November.

 

If this sounds like something you’d like to do, please let me know. I’ll continue arranging it until someone else steps up to lead.  Could it be you?
