The Today's Issues group meets on Sunday mornings at 9:30 in the parlor of
the Religious Education building. This Sunday, 11/21/2021, we will discuss
two essays:

>From the New York Times 11/14/2021, Jay Kang, "Can We Talk About Critical
Race Theory
<https://docs.google.com/document/d/1nn2nC3TCuBFujTyivpmnlCr_XZ1CUD3B8JaOsQA3WdE/edit?usp=sharing>?"
The national debate over critical race theory — if one can even call it a
debate — has been filled with half-truths, unfulfilled definitions, and a
whole lot of obfuscation and obstruction. It feels, at times, as if we’ve
walked into an unfinished simulation where certain objects carry a vague
resemblance to real things, but if you actually want to navigate the space,
you’re going to have to take a lot of untrustworthy people’s word for
what’s what.

>From the New York Review of Books, 11/18/2021, page 43, Nicholas Cage,
"Partners
in Brutality
<https://docs.google.com/document/d/1RbgNwPZyfCK7tZbJL201U4jm0Lje3Rgch0FM8LCwAiI/edit?usp=sharing>,
" New books investigate the brutality of the internal slave trade by
focusing on a single firm, Franklin and Armfield, and examine the role of
white women in enslaving Black people.
