The Today's Issues discussion group is meeting at 9:30 on Sunday mornings
in the parlor of the Religious Education building next to the church,
ending in time to attend services at 11.

For this Sunday we will discuss two essays from the July 22 issue of the
New York Review of books:

Page 22 Fintan O'Neil, "Freedom for Sale,

In
the 1950s and 1960s, a new generation of American artists began to think of
advertising and commercial imagery as the new avant-garde. A review of a
new book by Louis Menand on *The Free World: Art and Thought in the Cold
War*

Adam Hochschild, "All American Vigilantes

When
the US entered World War I, right-wing organizations seized the opportunity
to round up leftists, labor organizers, and suspected draft dodgers.
Parallels are drawn to the group that invaded the US Capitol on January 6.

Copies of the readings are attached. Please check out the readings and
join our lively discussion.
