The Today's Issues group meets at 9:30 on Sunday mornings in the parlor of
the Religious Education building next to the church. For Sunday, July 11,
we will discuss two essays from the July 1 issue of the New York Review of
Books:
page 42, Sean Willentz, "Forging an Early Black Politics
<https://docs.google.com/document/d/1MoE8w4npgeuY_lhLiXZkqSuOswljDNT8oewnZhN4gJ4/edit?usp=sharing>,"
The
pre-Civil War North was a landscape not of unremitting white supremacy but
of persistent struggles over racial justice by both Blacks and white.
Page 59, Fara Dabhoiwala, "Imperial Delusions
<https://docs.google.com/document/d/13SUjxzVmfw2KnKK9H-avDP4pPnc_z51OvbpyYgWx5GI/edit?usp=sharing>
," From the late eighteenth century onward, the British justified their
empire with a continually updated ideology of moral purpose and historical
necessity.
Copies of both readings are attached. All are welcome to join our lively
discussion on Sunday morning before church.
