Ron Tepley has joined the Great Cosmos.
With a heavy heart, I write to tell you that the Old Man of Underbrow Cottage (Ron Tepley) has died at home as he intended. He lived a long and full and adventurous life, growing up in Cleveland, wooing the love of his life, Ruth; serving in the military, and raising 4 great kids. I loved hearing his stories of his father (a professional boxer who worked in the steel mill), of his escapades as a young man, the integration of the armed services; and stories of his travels. He was most proud of his children and grandchildren.
Ron was a geologist, and worked in the oil and gas industry for many years. (Did you hear the story of the rhino?) When he retired, he set his mind to being an artist and a poet, and found his second great passion in being creative, and supporting the arts. His first passion was always his beloved Ruth, who died of cancer, but was always on his mind.
He was a man of loyalty and courage and will, active in Men’s Group and the Meditation Group and a staunch supporter of FUUSM in so many ways. He spoke his mind, and could draw upon the colorful language of his youth in Cleveland, but his never lost his reason. Under his gruff exterior, was a gentle man I loved and will always call my friend.
We will honor him in many ways during the months to come, keeping his spirit alive as we mourn his death and we remember him.
He will certainly be a part of the great cloud of witnesses in the service this Sunday -
The Day of the Dead, as we light candles of memory.
Your minister, Rev. Kathryn Hawbaker
