The Today’s Issues group is resuming meeting this Sunday, July 5, following
newly posted church coronavirus guidelines. Please wear a mask and speak
up as we will sit six feet apart. Since the group has been small, we will
be able to meet in the parlor of the RE building next to the church at 9:30
Sunday morning as usual. If anyone would like to participate via Zoom, we
might set that up but I don’t plan to do it unless I get a request to
tedgoertzel at gmail.com

As usual, the group will discuss two essays from the New York Review of
books which you should read in advance. They are both from the July 2
edition.

Page 12, Michael Tomsky, “Biden’s Journey Lef
<https://www.nybooks.com/articles/2020/07/02/joe-bidens-journey-left/>t.”
This is a discussion of Democratic Party strategies as impacted by the
coronavirus, the relationship between Biden and Sanders supporters, etc.

Page 55, Walter M Schaub, “Ransacking the Republic
<https://www.nybooks.com/articles/2020/07/02/trump-corruption-ransacking-republic/>,”
a discussion of Trump’s firing of Inspector Generals and its impact on the
possibilities of criminal justice reform, ethics in government, voting
rights and other issues.

Both essays can be read without a password on the NYR site, so I am not
attaching copies. Just click on the titles above. Both are worth reading.

We hope to see you on Sunday!
