This Week at F.U.U.S.M.

Monday, Dec. 21 | 5pm MST  7pm EST  Winter Solstice  Live Stream -  This “Great Conjunction” happens next on December 21, 2020, the night of the winter solstice, and the peak of the Ursid meteor shower. It will be viewed in the southern sky just after sunset. If you begin observing the southern sky before the 21st, you can follow the two planets.
For most Great Conjunctions, Jupiter and Saturn are separated by about 1 degree, which is the width of two full moons in the sky. This year, they will be separated by just one-tenth of a degree, which is one-fifth the size of the full moon. This gives the effect of the "Christmas Star."
Join Lowell Observatory on Mon., December 21, 2020, to celebrate the Great Conjunction with an evening of telescope viewing and commentary from Lowell’s own astronomers and educators.

Thurs. Dec. 24    Annual Christmas Eve – Ring Out Wild Bells

Because of the early sunset, the time has been changed to make the Reverse Parade safer. Gather before (5pm) when we will start the parade past FUUSM to share greetings, ring bells and share holiday cheer.

Let us bring Joy to the World and answer the call to celebrate in unity and peace.



Line up in the bank parking lot before 5pm, bring bells if you have them. The parade of cars will turn right out of the bank drive-thru aisles onto 3rd Street, move slowly past the front of FUUSM and turn right again at the light onto Putnam Street, attendants with baskets will gratefully receive your gifts &offerings.  Enjoy the rest of your evening as you go about your merry way. Please join us for a Candlelight Service on Zoom (8pm) –

use the FUUSM Main Link to gather from home. There will be music, readings and a bedtime story; 

plan to have your candles ready at home for a glowing time on Zoom.

Sunday Dec. 27  - "Kwanzaa"   -  Rev. Kathryn Hawbaker   A Cultural/Community look at a holiday grounded 

in African-American heritage. What is our relationship with the rush to embrace numerous empowerment symbols in superficial ways?  What should whites do? (Being careful about cultural misappropriation) Drawing on our deep roots in wrestling with racism in our minds and midst, let’s discern our next steps together.    “I don’t see color.”   That’s bad. You’re ignoring the experience of every black person in this country. You’re pretending everyone is treated equally or has equal experiences in this country when that’s demonstrably false.  Just because you wish it true doesn’t make it so. Those differences & diversity are important to recognize.  (Allies of St. Louis Park)

Release the old year by burning slips of paper that invoke the things we want to put behind us. 

Plan to wear masks and maintain safe and healthy spacing for this ceremony. Undecorate the fence after the services.





FUUSM Office  Access to the FUUSM Office is limited at this time for safety purposes.  Masks are required.   

Please call before you come into the Office (740) 373-1238) & sign in and out each time you enter any of 

the buildings.  Use the FUUSM Building Entry Log (bright red folder) in the Office, Sanctuary & Social Hall.
