On this Sunday the Today’s Issues group will discuss two essays from the
October 24 issue of the New York Review of Books:
Page 4, Zadie Smith, “Fascinated to Presume: In Defense of Fiction,
<https://www.nybooks.com/articles/2019/10/24/zadie-smith-in-defense-of-fiction/>”
Zadie Smith is a contemporary English novelist, essayist, and short-story
writer. Her debut novel, White Teeth (2000), immediately became a
best-seller and won a number of awards. This should be of interest to book
club members and others who read fiction.
Page 12, David Cole, “‘Sex’ at the Supreme Court
<https://www.nybooks.com/articles/2019/10/24/sex-at-the-supreme-court/>,”
about court rulings about transgender people and related topics.
Both essays can be read without a password on the New York Review site,
click on the titles in the paragraphs above. Do not be shy, if you read
the articles you’ll know as much as any of us, plus you can add your own
ideas and perspectives.
The group meets in the parlor of the Religious Education Building next to
the church at 9:30 on Sunday mornings.
