Fri. Jan. 18 (6pm) Green Sanctuary will host Just Dinner in the FUUSM Fellowship Hall

Eating righteously – bring a dish to share that fits this plan.



Sat. Jan. 19 (1-3pm) Awaken the Year with Rhythm  at FUUSM in the Fellowship Hall. Master Drummer Lawrence Greene will conduct the workshop. Workshop fee: $10.00. Advance registration is required. Please call Rev. Kat Hawbaker at (740) 373-1238 or Shelley Khatib at (703) 340-5502 to register. 

Drums will be provided for students who need them. This is the first in a series of monthly drum workshops at the U.U. Church.

DRUM CIRCLES 2019 - Ugata drum classes are taught by Lawrence R Greene.  He has been teaching drumming for 15 years.  He started playing at drum circles almost 20 years ago.  As an AmeriCorp member at Inner Harbour in Georgia Lawrence was able to study West African drumming and had the chance to play with his drumming teacher for about 18 hours a week for 10 months. While he was in Georgia he studied with Tam Tam Mandinque an international drumming school every other week and learned from the drum master Mamady Keita in Winston- Salem, NC.  As soon as his program was over he returned to Ohio and started to share what he had learned while working as a naturalist at Highland Nature Sanctuary and the Wilds. Lawrence hosts drumming groups at retirement homes, school, for people in recovery and for people with developmental disabilities. Recently Lawrence has connected Ugata: drum and dance with master drummer Balla Collins Sy of Goree drum and dance in Columbus so his students can have other learning opportunities

in the drumming world.
