Readings for October 28 2018
For this Sunday, October 28, the Today’s Issues group will discuss two
essays from the New York Review of Books:
Page 22 of the October 11 issue, Kwame Appiah, “The Red Baron,” a
discussion of the life of Michael Young, the author of The Rise of the
Meritocracy and a leader of democratic socialism in the United Kingdom in
the 1940s.

Page 4 of the October 22 issue, Drew Faust, “Catching Up to Pauli Murray,”
a review of Murray’s Song in a Weary *Throa**t,* a memoir of her life as a
civil rights and feminist activist, poet and lawyer, and as a closet
transsexual.

The group meets in the parlor of the Religious Education building next to
the church at 9:30 on Sunday mornings. Please do the readings and join our
lively discussion.
Both articles can be read without a subscription on the New York Review
website (click on the links above), so I am not attaching a copy. If
anyone has trouble accessing them, email tedgoertzel at gmail.com
